A strong reason why people do not like to take up the professional element of the sport is due to the competition and the pressures that can become involved at that level. Firstly, the camaraderie shown in the amateur levels of the sport can be extremely enticing and many people choose to participate because of the social aspect of bodybuilding. Many newcomers may think that becoming a bodybuilder is intimidating and scary but there are plenty of people on hand to offer support and advice to go about improving your body and performance. This interaction associated with the more carefree levels of the sport can become lost when a more professional element creeps into it.
When there is money on the line as well as ranking points and prestige, it can be harder to build friendships with fellow competitors as many do not like to fraternize with rivals. Therefore, people who wish to undertake this activity in order to make friends with people who have similar interest would be well advised to steer clear of the professional game.
