Cape firefighters seek funding for retiree benefits
Cape Coral firefighters say they have a plan to save the city money on their retiree health care benefits. The only problem: It would cost tax payers $2.5 million. Cape Coral Professional Firefighters is proposing a plan that would guarantee retired fire fighters continue receiving health benefits. "The idea of pay as you go isn't going to work anymore," said Mark Muerth, president of the local union.
Muerth outlined his preliminary proposal in a letter sent to Cape Coral City Councilman Marty McClain. In order to launch the program, the city would be responsible for a one-time contribution of $2.5 million. "What this does is set up a trust fund for those employees within the payroll and future retirees," said McClain.... Read More ....
