New York City Firemen Hunks Calendar for 2007
Since 1996, the New York City Fire Department has sold the FDNY Calendar of Heroes. The calendar costs $14.95, and proceeds go to the FDNY Fire Safety Education Fund, which teaches the public about fire safety. The most popular calendar was the 2002 one, which featured three firefighters killed on Sept. 11, 2001. This 2007's cover features firefighter Mark DeRosa.
January's firefighter Terence Halloran keeps the subway nice and warm for riders. Each firefighter has a fire safety tip, and January's tip is to plug space heaters directly into wall socket, not a power strip. February's model Larry Parker says you should leave at least three to five feet of open space around space heaters. May's model Kismartovi Mejia says to change your smoke alarm batteries when you "spring forward" and change your clocks. Michael Sottosanti, the June model, says you should have a fire extinguisher on every level of your home. The July guy is retired Lt. Tom Westman, who advises people to install a carbon monoxide detector on every level of their home. Westman was also a $1 million winner in the reality show "Survivor." November's David Obiesie says keep home escape routes clear at all times. Blaise Major, the December cover guy, says that unattended cooking is the leading cause of home fires.
